I’m so excited to introduce you to our other Spring Shadow, Sarah! In the past few weeks, Sarah has quickly become an incredible and integral addition to our team. She is joyful, hard-working, kind, and super smart. Her willingness to learn and help both the team and our clients is astounding. I’m so excited to have her by our side for the rest of this Spring wedding season, and I’m even more excited to introduce you to her today 🙂
Tell us a little more about yourself and where you are in your life right now. I am currently a junior Business Administration Major at Erskine College in Due West, SC. I serve as the Student Body President, and I am highly involved in the social life of Erskine. It has served as my home for the past three years, and I can truly say that the Lord has blessed me with the students and faculty that have become life-long friends of mine due to our interaction at Erskine. My favorite color is pink, and I feel like that is the color I would use to describe myself! It’s bright, bubbly, unique, but also unapologetic about its idiosyncrasy- and that’s precisely what I strive to be. I have a blog and a side photography business that have given me great joy over the past few years. I try to give my all in whatever it is that I do, but I also search to find whatever it is that not only brings me joy but pushes me to become a better version of myself.
Where are you from? I am from Belton, SC. It’s a little town located in Anderson County, and if you blink, you’ll miss it.
What attracted you to Bespoken’s Shadow Program? My best friend, and the Lord’s provision. My best friend, Anna Raquel, is two years older than me and graduated from Erskine last spring and went into event coordination/ wedding coordination in her hometown. Our personalities are quite similar, and she suggested I consider the field in choosing a career, because she thought I would enjoy it. I honestly never thought I would look into wedding planning, but a lot of my friends have told me for a while that I will be the one planning theirs, so I decided maybe it was worth looking into. As a side note- I also deeply love the ins and outs of relationships, and the purpose behind them. The Lord built and formed us all as relational creatures, and I think there is a reverence that is brought into a wedding day that is almost forgotten. We celebrate for a life long commitment and the significance of a special bond between two people, and it is easy to forget that that is the main purpose. In my opinion, wedding coordinating/planning is a form of ministry that allows one to love and encourage people approaching that declaration and celebration of a life-long commitment, and I love it with all that is in me. I began to ask the Lord to open the doors and the path that he would have for me, and that he might make it abundantly clear. Through prayer, wise council, and guidance from my best friend, Bespoken appeared in my realm of possibilities, and as I saw Bespoken represented all that I believed, I knew it was where the Lord was leading me.
What do you love about weddings? Weddings are so special because they represent the commitment of a lifetime, not the commencement of a ceremony. They show the passion and the emotion in each person’s heart, that in today’s society especially, stands so secretly guarded. It allows one to feel something so overwhelming I believe can only truly come from the Lord. It’s a joyful moment, but not a happy one. Happiness fades and joy is everlasting, just like a covenant. Weddings display the love that Christ has for His bride, and that he allows us to have for one another.
What are you passionate about? I’m passionate about love, honestly. If there is one thing I get right in my life, I want it to be my ability to love others. God has given me a love I am so undeserving of in my brokenness as a person, that I want to show to others. There is a hope so much greater than that this world has to offer, and he so perfectly writes it into creation. I want nothing but love for those around me: true, pure, authentic, and sincere love. It’s a form of leadership, of ministry, and of community. Let us lead, live, and greatly display it.
What are some small things that make your day better? Small things that make my day better would include listening to “Moon River” as performed by Frank Sinatra, hearing encouragement from a friend, being able to offer encouragement to a friend, or even just seeing pretty flowers.
What’s the last adventure you went on? The last adventure I went on would be St. Patty’s Day 2017 with Anna Raquel. We went down to Savannah, Georgia for the St. Patty’s Parade, and it was absolutely a blast. It was something I had on my bucket list, and over our spring break, we thought it would be fun to adventure the two of us down to Savannah for a day. I think we listened to the Moana soundtrack at least twelve times through that weekend, and we saw some of the cutest nooks Savannah had to offer. It by far exceeded my expectations, and spending time with one of the greatest friends the Lord has ever blessed me with made it all worth it.
What is your favorite book? My favorite book would have to be I Isaac take the Rebecca by Ravi Zacharias. Zacharias uses the old testament example of Isaac and Rebecca to showcase what true, biblical marriage looks like, and I would be lying to you if I told you I had not read it three or four times. There is so much wisdom in the book, that you savor each chapter, and it can’t be read just once through. I would recommend it to any married couple, but I highly recommend it to my single friends.
What is your favorite food? I love food. All food. To choose a favorite would absolutely be one of the hardest things in the world for me to do, but if I had to choose, I would say breakfast or brunch. I am a sweet breakfast kind of person, and I think that stuffed french toast is a gift from the Lord. The best brunch I have ever had would be at Palo on the Disney Dream Cruise Ship. If you ever have the opportunity, please go for it! All of the food is stellar, but I highly recommend trying the chocolate chip brioche and the whip cream made from scratch.
What is something that no one else knows about you? I had perfect attendance from Kindergarten until I graduated High School.
What’s your favorite thing to do on a really beautiful day? I am a city girl at heart, so my ideal thing to do on a beautiful day would be to walk around New York City, or Downtown Greenville. It’s like a breath of fresh air, and it changes my mood greatly.
What are you most excited about in the next 12 months? In the next twelve months I will (almost) have graduated college. Which, is completely insane to me. Time really waits for no one. In between that time, however, I hope to travel and experience a lot of great things. I am excited for the hustle and bustle of the real world because I believe that will be my prime season of life, but I am also excited for the ability to enjoy my senior year of college, to relax, and to know my hard work has paid off.
Coffee or Tea? Coffee or Tea is a hard one. I’m a black coffee kind of girl. However, I am not really supposed to have coffee in excess anymore, so I would have to say Matcha (specifically) for the time being. I do not discriminate, but circumstances aside, coffee would be my main choice.
Morning person or night owl? I am a morning person. Once I am up, I am up for good, and my attitude is super chirpy.
What are you grateful for right now? I am grateful for the life the Lord has blessed me with, and for the love He shows me that I am completely undeserving of. I have made so many great connections and created so many memories that I will look back on with gratefulness in the years to come, and Bespoken is a part of that. I am so thankful for the team I get to work with. Bespoken, in part, has helped me step into who I am called to be, and I will always be thankful for that.
