Hannah first contacted us back in December asking for help planning her wedding reception in Greenville, SC. We clicked with her and knew this was a perfect pairing to help her, Matt, and their parents enjoy the wedding day. We are about to really dig in to all of the details of their wedding day, and we are so excited for everything to come together in September! Hannah and Matt have a love Charleston (just like we do!) and spent some time there recently for their engagement session with Christopher Bell Photography. The photos are GORGEOUS, and we have been dying to share some of our favorites with you! We also asked Hannah and Matt a few questions so you can get to know them a little better. Enjoy!
How did you two meet? How long have you known each other? We met at a Super Bowl party hosted at a friend’s house. Matt came along with a mutual friend. It wasn’t our passion for football that got us talking. We both ended up outside throwing the ball for Champ (now our six year old yellow labrador). We stayed outside most of the night!
Where do you guys like to go on your dates? We both enjoy trying restaurants that are new to town. We aren’t what one would call a ‘foodie’ but we like to think we have some of the basics down.
What is your favorite restaurant or type of food? Our Friday night tradition is going to La Parilla to eat Mexican food. Aside from Friday nights we also find ourselves making Mexican dishes throughout the week as well!
Complete this sentence: We go together like ______. Chips & Salsa. As stated above Mexican is our favorite!
When did you know he was “the one”? Did he know before you knew? I’m not sure of the exact moment I knew Matt was the one, but it certainly was early on in our relationship. I remember my mom telling me something along the lines of she hadn’t seen me that happy before. It all had to do with Matt. Matt says he knew on our second date so he does get the credit for knowing before I did.
How did he propose? Were you surprised? Matt proposed when we were on a vacation in Mexico. We left for the trip the day after my birthday. I thought he may propose but then after the first few days of the vacation I convinced myself he wasn’t. If he wanted to propose wouldn’t he do it earlier in the week versus keep the ring on him the whole time? Turns out he waited to the last day! Before dinner, we went to the rooftop of the resort and he popped the question. The proposal was followed with a fireworks show. The fireworks were actually from a wedding on the beach but it is a nice to add to our story too!
When and where are you two getting married? What made you decide to get married here? We are getting married September 15. Our ceremony will be held at First Presbyterian Church downtown Greenville. This is the church Matt grew up going to and we also currently attend as well. Our reception will be at Greenville Country Club. We chose GCC do to its location and ballroom. The ballroom is right in line with the style of our wedding. Matt also is an avid golfer so that helped too.
What colors are you using for your wedding? Our colors are white, gold, with just a hint of an ivy green.
Describe your wedding in 3 words. Traditional, timeless, simple.
How would you describe the style of your wedding? The goal for the style of our wedding is to keep things traditional. I also want the wedding to be something we look back on ten years from now and it looks like (for the most part) a wedding that could happen in the current day. Everything will be clean and crisp with nothing too bold.
What are your top 3 must-haves for your wedding?
- Shannon – when I got engaged this was the first vendor I booked. I knew I needed someone to help keep me and our parents stressed free for the evening
- Popcorn cart with fresh popcorn stand
- A good band with horn section (love a good horn!)
What is your favorite wedding blog or magazine? The Wedding Row. It is a blog based in Charleston. I grew up in Charleston and always dreamed of a Charleston wedding. When Matt and I got engaged however, I really wanted a Greenville wedding. Greenville is where we met, where we live, and where we go to church. It just feels natural! I still love reading The Wedding Row to get inspiration!
What have you loved most about planning your wedding? This may sound weird, but we have loved seeing our friends and family excited for our wedding. We have never felt so loved!
Are you guys going on a honeymoon? Where? Why did you choose this location? What are you going to do? Yes! We are in the final stages of booking. It will be somewhere tropical with white sand and blue water. It will be a place where we can just relax.
What are you most excited about in your marriage? We really are just excited to experience life together. That does sound cheesy but it’s the truth!
If you could give any future bride one piece of advice, what would you tell her? The wedding planning process isn’t as stressful as you may think it is. Listen to your intuition – if something feels right, it is the right decision to make. Don’t buy in to the hype of everything.
