I met Caroline and her mom several months ago for coffee to discuss Caroline and Matthew’s March wedding. We talked about their wedding vision and where they need the most help in planning their big day. They ultimately chose my Event Management & Execution package, so they’re planning everything, and I’m coming in to handle the coordination! I am so excited for these two and their March wedding! And their engagement photos from Anna Duncan are breathtaking!
How did you two meet? How long have you known each other? Matthew and I met when we were in high school! We were best friends all throughout high school, and he officially asked me to be his when I was 16! By the time that we get married, we will have been together for 6 1/2 years!!
Where do guys like to go on your dates? Since Matthew lives in a different state than me, our dates often consist of walks in the park catching up on life, long bike rides on the Swamp Rabbit Trail in Greenville, or going on a run through downtown Atlanta! As you can tell, we are very laid back and just really enjoy being together. 🙂
What is your favorite restaurant or type of food? We LOVE good Mexican food, so Mr. Salsa and Chipotle are two of our favorites!
Complete this sentence: We go together like _______. Tacos & Tuesdays. 😉
When did you know he was “the one”? Did he know before you knew? To be honest, we both kind of went into the relationship knowing that dating should lead to marriage, so we sort of took the relationship seriously from the beginning (even though we were babies in high school). We had a lot of fun the first year or two of dating, but there wasn’t a specific time or place that we both realized that we wanted to get married. We both just came to a point where we realized that we didn’t want to do life with anyone else, and the Lord really confirmed us being together through several people.
How did he propose? Were you surprised? Matthew proposed in literally the coolest way ever. I’m still not over it. Matthew had told me that we were going to a healthy restaurant in Hendersonville to eat dinner ( which I was honestly super excited about). But, obviously that didn’t go as planned. I got in the car, and we started driving and just chatting. He wasn’t really following the Hendersonville signs, but I just ignored it. We somehow ended up driving on a gravel road for 45 minutes (yeah, cue the headaches and nausea). He stopped the car at the top of the mountain and helped me get out of the car. We proceeded to walk out to the most gorgeous 180 degree overlook of the mountains and Lake Keowee. I looked down and he was down on one knee proposing with the most gorgeous ROCK I had ever seen! So what’s better– a gorgeous view and a gorgeous ring?! We had dinner on the top of the mountain and then he had planned the most precious surprise engagement party with tons of our friends and family! It was just the coolest night.
When and where are you two getting married? What made you decide to get married here? We are FINALLY getting married on March 24th, 2018! We are getting married at the Oaks Wedding Venue in Anderson, SC. We actually don’t have any ties to Anderson, but we loved the Oaks and really fell in love with the scenery the first time we saw it!
What colors are you using for your wedding? We are using Blush for the bridesmaids, Navy Blue for the groomsmen, and then tons of green & white to give our wedding the natural look!
Describe your wedding in three words. Fun, Natural, & Sentimental!
How would you describe the style of your wedding? We are very laid-back people but we also LOVE to have a good time! Our wedding will be outside, so the ceremony will obviously have a very natural and relaxed feel to it. Our reception is going to be full of delicious food, cake, and TONS of dancing! Our wedding style is probably just an overall party (is that even a style?!)!
What are your top 3 must-haves for your wedding? We REALLY wanted the ceremony to be outdoors, we wanted a venue that accommodated tons of people, & we wanted a super good DJ!
What is your favorite wedding blog or magazine? The Knot!
What have you loved most about planning your wedding? Some parts of the planning have been honestly really difficult and frustrating, but other parts have seriously been so much fun! Our overall favorite part of wedding planning was probably when we chose our venue, just because that is when engagement and marriage actually started to feel REAL! Like this is actually happening!
Are you guys going on a honeymoon? Where? Why did you choose this location? What are you going to do? We are going to Los Cabos, Mexico on our honeymoon! Neither of us have ever been to Los Cabos so we are honestly just excited to explore a new place together for the first time! We are staying at an all-inclusive resort, so I picture a lot of naps, snorkeling, and eating in our future. 🙂
What are you most excited about in your marriage? We are just honestly excited about being married and being in the same zip code again! We have been long-distance our entire engagement, and we are so excited to be able to do day-to-day life together again! Wedding planning is cool and March 24th will seriously be the sweetest day but we are so excited to start real-life together!
If you could give any future bride one piece of advice, what would you tell her? I would just say that weddings are fun and the planning can be really exciting sometimes, but don’t put all of your hope and dreams into one day. March 24th will come and go, but Matthew and I’s marriage is what is going to last and continue through the years. So yes, be detailed with the wedding and have a ton of fun but also don’t neglect or forget about life coming up right after you get home from your honeymoon! Get excited about buying a couch together and finding your favorite recipes to cook at night when you both get home from work. The wedding will be really fun but I also think that doing life with your favorite human every day & night will be pretty special too!
